Thoughts from Casey Kinslow...
In June of 2002, I made a decision that has taught me
the wisdom of being careful of what you wish for. Following
the death of my brother in 1989, I struggled with personal
conflicts in my professional life. I had climbed the
corporate ladder to success and having achieved my professional
goals, I remained wanting. I chose to leave my career
in search of finding a meaningful way to support kids
and make a difference in their lives. For
a period of two years, my wife, Jan, and I envisioned
a dream and together we developed a plan. We had reached
a place in own lives that was safe; a point where
most dreams and plans remain just that. But in early
2000, opportunity, in the form of a vacant 20,000
sq. ft. empty building, forced us to decide if we
were willing to risk making our dream a reality! In
June of 2000, we signed the lease, accepted the risk, and wished that it would become something different
and special in supporting children and families. We
called it “CASEY’S
PLACE.”
Then something special happened on a cold and wet
Saturday morning, the rain threatened to play havoc
with our opening community Girl’s
Softball Program. Jan offered an empty, unfurnished
20,000 sq. ft facility, formerly a Builders Emporium
to Navajo’s Bobby
Sox as an alternative site. It turns out that
over 700 people attended what, in hindsight, was a
VERY GRAND OPENING.
